The Great Backyard Bird Count

I was reminded by a dear friend that this weekend is the Great Backyard Bird Count! (Thanks Cristina!) This is an amazing nationwide bird count that takes place the days of February 14th -18th.
This is an awesome 4 day opportunity for all of us. All it requires of you is 15 spare minutes to watch the birds in your own backyard and then document what you see. You don't even have to leave home to do this. But if you are away from home you can count the birds you see where you are at. Click here for information on how to participate.
There is also a photo contest for those who want to get some pictures. Very cool prizes are awarded for top photos as well as some random drawings from the names of those who participated.
Finally check out the stories generated by those who participated in past years. I especially enjoyed reading why the robins were the most numerous bird reported.

Please participate in this if at all possible! This is a great activity to emphasize why birds matter to us.
