We had so much fun in class Monday. The children all became migrating birds. They had to begin at our nesting grounds and make it to our wintering grounds, while facing many dangers along the way. I am sorry to report many of your children didn't make the journey. Man-made disasters like oil spills or 200 acre resorts destroyed habitat on the journey. Natural disasters like droughts and floods also made it hard for our birds to migrate. We watched bird populations rise with wetland preserve creations or backyard habitats. Good weather and predator prey balance also had a positive impact. Your children raced to arrive first to any available habitat they could find!
After we played this game for a few rounds, we followed the rise and fall of bird population on a line graph.

Homework this week was to continue your bird reports. I saw some great work on these so far! Next week, we'll be making booklets about bird migration. Looking forward to it!
